Yobe Govt Drops Discount On Subsidized Fertilizer

Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, the incumbent Governor of Yobe State, has flagged off the sale of fertilizer at the subsidized rate of N13,000 per bag to farmers all over the state for the 2022 cropping season.

Earlier today, the announcement of the discount on each bag of the fertilizer offered to farmers today at the sale of the product to farmers for the 2022 farming season in an event held at the Government House, Damaturu.

According to Gov.: “Agriculture remains the major preoccupation of our people, therefore, my administration will continue to give this sector the priority attention it deserves, and to be in tune with the Federal Government’s policy on agriculture as one of the most important sectors of our national economy.”

He noted that in order to sail the gains in agricultural production, his government has adopted a policy of making fertilizer available to farmers at subsidized rates and approved the sum of N13,000 per bag of fertilizer to be sold to farmers.

He commented that the government would not pardon any act of diversion or sabotage from any quarter.

The governor urged the administrative officials entrusted with the sales and distribution of the commodity to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability in the sale and distribution process across the 17 local government areas as well as ensure that sales proceeds are duly remitted to the government.

Gov. Buni also urged beneficiary farmers to make good use of the product to enhance their farming activities.

He pleaded with the teeming farmers in the state to eschew reselling the fertilizer but ensure its utilization for their agricultural production.

A bag of NPK and Urea fertilizer, the two main products being used by farmers, particularly for the cultivation of cereals and as at now sells at N20,000 in the open market.

Gov. Buni has also approved the sum of N5m to support the new skills of a talented young man who fabricated a farming plough machine, manually pushed for support for tilling of farmlands in the state.
