Alleged sexual harassment: Nigerian lecturer sacked in Uganda
Nafiu Lukman Abiodun, a Nigerian academic at Uganda’s Kabale University, has been fired.
He was the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences and the Head of the Department of Economics and Statistics.
According to Uganda Radio Network, Abiodun, the former Director of Research, was found guilty of sexual harassment.
After complaints that he demanded sex from female students in exchange for grades, the lecturer was investigated.
Wing Abiodun, who allegedly caused those who refused to retake courses, was exposed after some of them recorded him on the phone demanding sex.
The management’s decision was communicated in a letter dated November 11 by Uniersity Secretary Canon Johnson Munono Byaryantuma.
“I regret to inform you that the Appointments Board of Kabale University found you guilty of Sexual Harassment, failure to follow examination regulations, and professional negligence under Min.598160/AB/21122.”
“As a result, the board directed that you be severely reprimanded and your interdiction be lifted,” it says.
Abiodun’s contract as a senior lecturer in statistics was also not renewed by the university.
He was ordered to surrender all university property to the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Science.
Joy Constance Kwesiga, the Chancellor, confirmed the development, adding that they have information that Abiodun may file a lawsuit.
