JUST IN: Ekiti Assembly has impeached new Speaker
Less than a week after being elected, Ekiti lawmakers impeached Speaker Gboyega Aribisogan.
Aribisogan’s removal was supported by 17 of the 25 lawmakers. On Monday, he was also suspended indefinitely.
They chose Olubunmi Adelugba to be the new Speaker.
Aribisogan accused former Kayode Fayemi of masterminding an impeachment plot against him.
He claimed Fayemi was working with seven Assembly lawmakers to impeach him on Monday.
Aribisogan, who represents Ikole constituency 1, was elected as the new speaker on November 15.
He took over for Funminiyi Afuye, who died in October after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The Police laid siege to the Assembly complex 24 hours after he was sworn in, claiming that some individuals were planning to attack the lawmakers.
