Everton manager Lampard says the club couldn’t compete with Wolves for Cunha
Everton manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that the club was aware of Matheus Cunha’s availability this winter.
Atletico Madrid’s Brazilian forward has signed an initial loan deal with Premier League rivals Wolves.
Lampard was questioned about not moving for Cunha, given the Toffees’ desire to add firepower to their squad.
“We were very aware of the player,” Lampard said when asked about it. He’s a really interesting player, but as you mentioned, the number is large, and Wolves have made the decision to go after him.
“Everyone has to work within different parameters, and it wasn’t one of them for us.
“As a club — even though now league position and results are always the most important thing — we also have to make sure that what we are trying to do keeps working in the right direction and with the right type of players.
“It’s just a sign of where the Wolves are and where we might not be at the moment.”
