USAID distribute $247m for humanitarian assistance in Nigeria, Niger, Togo, others
The United States through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has revealed that more than $247million in additional funding has been disbursed for urgent humanitarian assistance to help people across Africa coping with the impacts of protracted illness crisis and natural disasters across Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African republic, Chad Djibouti, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria ,Togo and Zimbabwe as well as the Central Sahel.
In a press release issued on September,19th by the U.S department of state French Language Spokesperson, Johann Schmonsees, said this new funding will support USAID humanitarian partners providing lifesaving food assistance, emergency health care, safe drinking water and sanitation, and protection for vulnerable people, including children, survivors of gender based violence and people with disabilities.
He explained that with this funding, USAID has provided more than $4.7billion in humanitarian assistance in Africa this fiscal year to respond to the urgent needs of vulnerable people affected by conflict and crisis on the continent.
He assured that they will continue to stand with conflict and disasters affected populations and stand ready to provide humanitarian assistance to save lives and alleviate poverty.
