JUST IN: Ivory Coast sack coach Gasset over Poor Performance in AFCON
Ivory Coast, the host nation of the Africa Cup of Nations, has relieved coach Jean-Louis Gasset of his duties.
The decision was announced by the country’s football federation (FIF) on Wednesday.
In a statement, the FIF stated, “The contracts of coach Jean-Louis Gasset and his assistant Ghislain Printant are terminated due to insufficient results.”

The decision comes after Ivory Coast suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea in their last Group A match on Monday. With hopes of advancing to the knockout phase dim, the two-time champions now depend on favourable results in Wednesday’s final group matches to secure a spot among the top four third-placed teams.
Ivory Coast have only failed to progress beyond the group stage once in the past nine editions of the tournament (in 2017).
