Former INEC Commissioner, REC Is Dead
A former National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC), Prince Solomon Soyebi, has died.
It was gathered that Solomon Soyebi died on Thursday after a brief illness.
Soyebi was a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Abia, Akwa Ibom and some other states in the country.
Confirming Soyebi’s death to The PUNCH, a top INEC official in Akwa Ibom State described the ex-REC’s demise as a sad development.
He said that though the former commissioner, an old boy of Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, Ogun State, died on Thursday, he was not aware of where he died.
“He has been ill; he died this morning, but I am not aware of where he died. I know some time ago, he was abroad. I don’t know where he died, but it is true,” the top official said.
Soyebi, who was born April 23, 1955, graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1978. He joined INEC in 2003.
Efforts to reach any of Soyebi’s family members proved abortive.
Also, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, could not be reached to speak on the demise of the former national commissioner.
