Man flogs two-year-old son to death
A man has allegedly flogged his two-year-old son to death in the Imiringi area of Bayelsa State.
The man simply identified as Vwede reportedly rushed the child to hospital when he discovered that the boy had fainted after the beating.
It was gathered that the suspect had since absconded after health workers on duty informed him that the boy had died.
Some of the hospital workers and the suspect’s neighbours contacted DO Foundation, a non-governmental organisation concerned with child protection.
Lawyers and other campaigners yesterday expressed their anger over the incident, which happened on Sunday.
Head of Legal, DO Foundation, Stanley Aimiekumo, said Vwede’s landlord alerted the foundation on the incident, adding that the suspect had a habit of beating the child.
It was also learnt that the mother of the boy might have abandoned the child with his father.
Police spokesman Asinim Butswat could not be reached on the phone.
