2023 Presidency: Goodluck Jonathan Is Still Our Member – PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disclosed that former President Goodluck Jonathan is still a member of the opposition party.
TrackNews had reported that a source in Jonathan’s camp confirmed that the former Nigerian leader registered his membership with the ruling party at his Otuoke Ward in Bayelsa State.
But the APC Chairman in the state, Dennis Otiotio, said Jonathan is not a member of the party, adding that he can only be a member if granted a waiver by the national chairman of the party, Adamu Abdullahi.
However, the chairman of APC in Ward 13, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Igori Freeman, has confirmed that Jonathan is indeed a member of the ruling party.
Reacting to the development, PDP spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, said the former President has not dumped the party and was not aware of his resignation.
Ologunagba made this known during an interview on a Channels Television programme, on Sunrise Daily, on Friday.
The PDP spokesman described Jonathan’s defection to the APC as a rumour until the former President confirms his resignation from the party.
He said: “As far as today, I am not aware of his resignation from the membership of the party [PDP. I would assume it is safe to say that he is a member of the party, if events follow thereafter, we can speak to that.
“Membership of the party is personal. Membership of the party is at the ward level. I can’t speak for him. I don’t speak for the former President.”
