Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni, the National Youth President of Afenifere, has confirmed that he was abducted by armed individuals on February 17, 2025, while traveling to Abuja. The kidnapping reportedly took place around 2:00 p.m. in Akunnu Akoko, Ondo State.

Ojajuni shared his experience in a Facebook post on Friday, revealing that he is still receiving medical treatment following the ordeal. He expressed gratitude to those who supported him financially, emotionally, and spiritually during his time in captivity. He also thanked those who reached out to his wife to offer words of encouragement.

“I was kidnapped by Fulani herdsmen on the 17th of February on my way to Abuja in Akunnu Akoko around 1:42 p.m. I’m undergoing serious medical treatment. Besides, I want to use this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me massively—financially, spiritually, and by calling my dear wife for words of encouragement. Once I’m out of the hospital bed, I’ll come out to appreciate you all specially,” Ojajuni wrote.

Ojajuni was released on March 1 after his family paid a ransom of at least ₦17 million, according to a source close to the family. His wife personally delivered the ransom to the abductors in Akure, after which he was freed following 12 days in captivity.

Sources claim that despite multiple pleas for help, the Nigerian government did not provide financial assistance, and security agencies were unable to locate the kidnappers until the ransom was paid. “We did not hear anything from the government despite repeated promises, and the police efforts did not yield results. We had no choice but to raise funds ourselves,” a source disclosed.

During his time in captivity, Ojajuni was reportedly threatened and subjected to harsh treatment. In an audio recording that surfaced while he was held hostage, his abductors allegedly threatened his life, warning that they had already shot him once and were prepared to do more harm.

Ojajuni is currently receiving medical care at an undisclosed location for security reasons. His abduction has raised concerns about the growing insecurity in the region, particularly incidents of kidnappings for ransom.

The Afenifere Youth Council has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. However, supporters and community members have expressed relief over his safe return and called for urgent security measures to prevent future kidnappings.

This case underscores the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, where kidnappings by armed groups remain a serious threat. Many victims and their families are often left to negotiate ransom payments on their own, as law enforcement struggles to track down and apprehend perpetrators.

As Ojajuni continues his recovery, his ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the need for stronger government intervention and improved security strategies to protect citizens from such attacks.
