BREAKING: ASUU Suspends 8-Month Long Strike, Conditionally
Agency Report
Following an eight-month-long strike that began on February 14, 2022, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reportedly called a temporary halt to the strike action.
An overnight union leadership meeting on Thursday resulted in the decision to call off the strike, according to sources.
The meeting was called by the union to determine its next line of action after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal verdict last week. The Court of Appeal had mandated that ASUU end its strike before it can hear its appeal of the ruling compelling lecturers to return to work.
The meeting took place in the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja, and it was attended by members of the union’s National Executive Committee, made up of the chairmen of the state chapters and members of the national executive.
