Bayelsa CP orders probe of mysterious death of 14-year-old girl in Yenagoa Hotel

Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Iduh has ordered a discreet probe of circumstances surrounding the death of a 14-year-old girl at a popular Yenagoa hotel on Easter Sunday.

According to investigations, the Police attention was drawn to the incident by the management of the hotel located along Isaac Boro Expressway, Yenagoa.

Findings indicated that the deceased identified as Sharon James from Akaibiri community in Ekpetiama Kingdom, Yenagoa Local Government had checked into the hotel with a 17-year-old boy identified as her boyfriend.

Sources said at about 11pm, the boy, whose identity is yet to be revealed, had raised an alarm when he found the girl in the bathroom in her own pool of blood.

“The boy told us that the girl had gone into the bathroom to freshen up and when she did not come out, this caused anxiety for him and he opened the bathroom door, only to see the girl on the floor with her blood, ‘’ a source in the hotel said.

It was learnt that the boy in panic immediately contacted his elder brother whose room was close to his in the hotel and they both decided to rush the girl to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.

Sources at FMC confirmed that the deceased had deep cuts on her neck and legs suggesting that she was attacked.

It was further gathered that the father of the deceased, Mr Ebitari James has demanded for an autopsy to establish the cause of the death of his daughter.

Meanwhile the Police which is in possession of the CCTV footage has arrested the suspect while a discreet investigation involving some hotel staff and medical personnel at the FMC is on-going.

The Bayelsa Police Command, Police Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police ( SP ), Musa Mohammed, who confirmed the incident said the Criminal Investigation Department ( CID ) of the Police Command is carrying out the order from the CP.

He assured that the Police would speak on the matter soon to intimidate the public with its preliminary findings. and that further development would be communicated publicly.
