Volunteer Staffer Nabs A Notorious Gangster
YENAGOA___The agile men, otherwise known as the special squad of the Bayelsa State Volunteers in a sting operation have effected the arrest of a notorious gangster and serial rapist who have been terrorisising innocent citizens in the Tombia axis at about 11.30pm this Monday evening.
The young man simply identified as Bright Odigon from Imiringi Community in Ogbia Local Area was arrested after robbing a POS kiosk, a barber’s shop at Bossy Water street, in Tombia junction. He was caught with with clippers and phones taken from his victims at the shop.
The young man who is said to be a member of the Bobos confraternity has been on the watch list of the agency for over six months because of his nefarious activities under the tombia bridge where he rapes his victim at gunpoint. He was said to have been robbing female students heading to Amasoma especially at night. He usually rape and rob his victims at the same time.
Speaking to the media after the raid this evening, the acting Chairman of the agency, Hon. Oyinkuro Lucky Asanakpo said, “I am particularly happy that we have been able to apprehend Mr. Odigu who has been on our watch list for a pretty long while. We have been monitoring him all this period before the long arm caught up with him this night. Several others like him are equally on our list waiting to be arrested unless they repent now.
“Let me use this opportunity to send clear warning signals to all others operating within and outside the Tombia axis, that we shall not relent in carrying out our operations any time of the day from now onwards because of the continued activities of criminals in the city centre.”
He warned that the security outfit has set its compass all over the metropolis to rid the streets of criminals and gangsters adding that citizens should report all strange movements to either the police or its office.
Meanwhile, Bright Odigon has since been handed over to the anti-kidnapping unit of the police force for proper prosecution and arraignment before a competent court of jurisdiction for criminal trial and conviction.
