Actress, model, and entrepreneur, Tania Omotayo has charged parents teach their kids cultural values and heritage so they can grow with it.

Omotayo made this call at the official launch of her children’s book entitled, ‘Sarai’s Culture Day’ at Lagoon Restaurant, Lagos.

While reiterating her effort to reawaken culture in kids, Omotayo said it is important to wean the country of negative influence from other cultures.

“It is important not to let go of our culture, especially during this period where people are moving abroad on a daily basis,” she said.

Continuing the half-caste said, “Culture is the most important thing. I am proud of my culture on both sides because it is part of our originality. It is very important to highlight culture, especially when you are moving to different countries, if you don’t take your culture with you; you might lose who you are. I hope everyone is proud of their language.”

On the inspiration behind the book, the mother of one said the story was inspired by her daughter, Sarai, for her and other kids to be proud of their culture and heritage.

“I started jotting when I first had my daughter about three and half years ago because I am mixed and she is mixed too, so I felt it is important for her to understand both cultures. I strongly believe as a parent it is up to us to educate our children and help them to be proud of where they are from. I think if we start with our kids the world will get better and greater,” the new author said.

Written by the actress and illustrated by Chike Obasi, the colourful conversation starter book is the perfect springboard to teach children the importance of embracing their culture and heritage. It also touches on moral stories of kindness, advocacy, self-acceptance, and anti-bullying.

On her part, the publishing firm’s CEO of Kunda Kids, Oladele Olafuyi said the book is poised to reconnect young Africans in the diaspora to their roots.
