Two Nigerian musicians, the Grammy-winning Burna Boy and the late Fela Kuti, the king of Afrobeat, have been chosen by Rolling Stone as two of the greatest singers of all time.
The two performers were praised for their vocal prowess and the way they spoke with their audience. A list of the 200 greatest singers ever recorded by Rolling Stone Fela Kuti was ranked 188, and Burna Boy was placed 197.
The list features some of the most popular and legendary musicians ever, and Burna Boy and Fela Kuti have received recognition for their enormous contributions to the development of African music.
According to Rolling Stone, Fela Kuti was a legendary figure who expressed his opinions on political and social concerns through his music.
According to Rolling Stone, his voice and the manner he sung also communicated a message, so it wasn’t simply his lyrics that did the talking.
Afrobeats’ representative and cultural titan Burna Boy has been dubbed. His “sophisticated polyrhythms” and deep bass accents were described as enhancing his voice’s sweetness, making it sound like caramel.
