Days after Akpabio’s defection, Saraki, Melaye storm Akwa Ibom (photos)

– The Senate President stormed the state with other Senators including Dino Melaye, Biodun Olujimi, Phillip Aduda, Clifford Ordia, and Isa Misau.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Friday, August 17, visited the governor of Akwa Ibom state, Emmanuel Udom, to show solidarity.

Saraki who was accompanied by other Senators, including Bassey Albert, Dino Melaye, Biodun Olujimi, Phillip Aduda, Clifford Ordia, and Isa Misau.

The visit by the Senators followed the recent defection of the former Senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

While, Akpabio claimed that his defection was attributed to the lack of internal reward system in the PDP, the commissioner of information for the state, Charles Udoh, said Saraki’s visit is a show of solidarity for Governor Udom.

Udoh said: “He (Mr Saraki) is leading a delegation of some senators to show solidarity with the governor.

“He told the governor that he has the full support of his office and his colleagues in the National Assembly,” Udoh said.

Meanwhile, TRACK NEWS previously reported that Saraki is said to be considering running against President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general elections.

According to Bloomberg, Saraki said in an interview at his residence in Abuja.

The Senate President said: “I am consulting and actively considering it. I believe I can make the change.”
