Gale of defection in Bayelsa APC caused by bad leadership—Chieftain

A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Hon. Sunday Frank-Oputu has attributed the recent cases of defection from the party to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to bad leadership and broken link with national leadership of the party at the national level.

According to Frank-Oputu, despite the successes recorded during the party membership revalidation and registration exercise in the state, the supposed State leader of the party and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva is less concerned with recent happenings and the party in Bayelsa not in touch with state and national leadership of the party.

Hon. Sunday Frank-Oputu, who made this known while reacting to recent cases of defection from APC to PDP in Bayelsa State, said it is disheartening that the recent defection is affecting the fortunes and gains made during the last Governorship elections in the state in which the party won at the general poll but lost at Supreme Court over the issue of fake certificate controversy.

Frank-Oputu said it is worrisome that due to the refusal of the Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva to iron out the contentious issues with stakeholders of the party in the state many have defected and others are in discussion on possible defection from the party.

According to Frank-Oputu,” Timipre Sylva does not care who goes or who stays in the APC. His belief is that when he has acquired all the wealth as Minister, he will come back to the state and buy back those that defected from the party. Chief Sylva does not care if the youths in the party are surviving or not. The youths of the party have not had any programme organized by Sylva or the party to ameliorate the suffering of the youths. None of the members of the APC are carried along. The leader is in Abuja believing that when election comes he will come back again.”

“The happening in the Bayelsa APC is very unfortunate and the party faithful have lost trust and loyalty in the leader of the party. The National leadership of the party should rise up to resolve the issues and challenges facing the party and its members in the state.”

Hon. Frank-Oputu also faulted that the reported claim by the Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena over the pass mark on the Chief Timipre Sylva leadership of the party in the state,” For me ,am not surprised. But to many angry members of the party in the state, they were shocked at the purported good rating of Chief Timipre Sylva. The party is in comatose and we lack direction on the way we are going. If not for the party membership registration which was successful and not with Chief Sylva contribution. It was successful because some stakeholders came together to tell every party members not mind Sylva and salvage the party.”

“For Yekini Nabena to write that Sylva had performed was a gross defense of failure within the party. Sylva has failed woefully in Bayelsa. I want to say that Yekini Nabena statement commending Sylva is totally wrong and if you compare and contrast, you will know that Sylva has failed woefully. Nabena should retract the statement because these are statements that made Sylva feel he is doing well”.

“Am not also surprised that recently Nabena Yekini attacked the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed that whatever the minister say in Nigeria is a lie. It shows that Sylva and his co-travelers are on different lane in APC. Making that statement is demeaning to the Federal Government, the Party and the Country.”

“Opposition can say such but not a member of the ruling party. For Nabena Yekini to say that is a slight on the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. And nobody can call him to order that he is wrong. Secondly, Yekini signed that Statement as National Publicity Secretary of APC. For the records, there is no position as National Publicity secretary in the party. All structures of the Party was dissolve by the NEC of the Party.”

“There is nowhere when National Caretaker Committee/Extra Ordinary Convention planning Committee headed by Gov. Mai Mala Bunu appointed him because they don’t have such powers. He should be called to other and sanctioned.”

“>…to God be the glory!”
