Ganduje seeks N15b loan to fund free education
TRACKING____Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, yesterday sought approval of the House of Assembly to borrow N15b to fund the state government’s free and compulsory education programme.
Announcing Ganduje’s request at the plenary, Speaker of the House, Alhaji Abdulazeez Garba-Gafasa, said government was seeking approval for the 44 council areas of the state to access N15b loan from a commercial bank.
“We received the letter of request from Ganduje, saying his decision to access the loan was to enable the local governments to ensure the success of government’s free and compulsory education policy .
“According to the letter, each of the 44 local government areas will receive N340 million if approved and that is aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the free and compulsory education declared by the state,” he said.He explained that government repayment plan for the loan spans 30 months with an interest of 15 per cent.
