I was misquoted by bloggers on Appeal Court Justices statement – NBA President, Akpata
QThe President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Olumide Akpata has said he was misquoted by some social media bloggers on a statement he made regarding the recent appointment of Appeal Court Justices.
According to him, a blogger who misunderstood his view on the appointment of the Justices published another version of his original statement.
The NBA president, made the clarification while speaking during a public forum at the Supreme Court Abuja.
Mr Akpata said the NBA NEC member, who misinterpreted him in the said publication, was entitled to attend the meeting, stressing that he can not stop the offender from such a meeting.
He said the publication has the tendency of threatening the relationship between the NBA and the National Judicial Council (NJC).
However, Akpata assured that the relationship between the duo would continue to be nurtured and sustained.
“On March 18, 2021, as the President of the NBA, I chaired a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NBA-N EC) of the NBA held in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital.
“I informed the meeting that during this exercise, I expressed concerns about the competence of some of the candidates that were interviewed and the process that led to the recommendation of twenty candidates to the NJC for appointment as Justices of the Court of Appeal.
“Unfortunately, one of the members of NBA-NEC rushed to the online blogs and published his own version of that statement and in the process quoted me, not necessarily incorrectly, but definitely out of context”, he added.
