IYC President Lokpobiri Refutes Journalist Attack Claims, Exposes Alleged Impostor

The President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Jonathan Lokpobiri, has dismissed reports suggesting that Ijaw youths attacked a journalist in Yenagoa. He described the claims as false narratives being pushed by individuals attempting to create unrest and sentiment in the region.
Lokpobiri reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining peace and defending the interests of the Ijaw people all over the world. He stated that during the recent event organized by Ijaw elders and leaders, he was engaged in discussions with critical stakeholders regarding the political crisis in Rivers State and the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu.
According to Lokpobiri, Theophilus Alaye, whom he accused of impersonating the IYC presidency, allegedly sneaked into the venue and later took an ADBN journalist to a secluded area behind the Ijaw House building for an interview. Lokpobiri claimed that Alaye’s presence was not known to him, nor was he involved in the confrontation that followed.
He stated that it was Ijaw youths who may have confronted Alaye for allegedly parading himself as the IYC president, leading him to flee the scene, leaving the journalist behind. Lokpobiri emphasized that none of his aides or immediate staff were present during the incident.
Condemning Alaye’s actions, Lokpobiri reiterated his stance that Alaye is an impostor exploiting the ongoing political situation in Rivers State for personal gain. He accused Alaye of bribing media personnel to spread falsehoods about his supposed leadership role in the IYC. Lokpobiri asserted that security agencies were well aware of Alaye’s activities and should take necessary action.
The IYC president also warned that the council has mechanisms to discipline individuals who falsely claim leadership positions. He assured that steps would be taken to prevent further impersonation attempts.
He ended by saying “Many Days Are For The THIEF but one is the owner”
