“It is concerning that as of June, no fewer than 7,408 driver’s licenses had been processed but had yet to be collected across our licencing centers in the state,” he said.

He stated that the corps would work with the Delta Board of Internal Revenue to make the collection process simple and quick.

“While it appears that many motorists are hesitant to collect their licenses, having a valid license remains a major requirement for drivers.”

“Having a valid driver’s license provides motorists with the legal backing and confidence to be on the road, as well as saving them unnecessary embarrassment,” he said.

Eshiet stated that the command would step up its campaign to emphasize the importance of drivers having valid licenses while on the road.

“The sensitization will also aim to raise public awareness about the consequences of driving without a valid license.”

Eshiet warned motorists who have yet to obtain valid licenses that they face a N10,000 fine, six months in prison, or both.

“We are not looking to punish people. “We encourage all motorists to process their license and drive without fear of being arrested by our personnel,” he added.

Eshiet urged motorcycle and tricycle operators to register their vehicles before operating them on the road, saying that “everything we do is for the overall interest of the motoring public.”
