Again, Delta Assembly suspends member
The Delta State House of Assembly yesterday suspended a member representing Burutu II Constituency in the House, Hon. Kennedy Daubry, for three months. This came barely 24 hours after Governor Ifeanyi Okowa presented a budget proposal of N367,095,083,451.00 for the 2019n fiscal year to the Assembly, which he tagged: “A Budget of Sustained Economic Development.” Besides, the suspension order came after the Assembly had suspended more than five other members, who include the former Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya and a member, Hon. Reuben Izezi, who represents Ughelli South constituency.
Daubry’s suspension followed a motion by the Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere, which was seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Friday Osanebi and was unanimously adopted by the House. Owhefere hinged the motion on what he described as “some character that is unbecoming” of a lawmaker as being exhibited by the affected lawmaker, saying that “Daubry behaved in a manner that was unbecoming of a lawmaker.” He said the sanctity of the House must be respected at all times by members, while stressing the need for lawmakers to live an exemplary life. Consequently, the motion was adopted when put to a voice vote by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
The House also adopted a motion calling on the state Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to interface with the Federal Ministry of Transport to prevail on the National Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to restore air traffic services at the Osubi Airport that already has being causing untold hardship on the people as a result of the withdrawal of air traffic services since September 3, 2018. He said the withdrawal of air traffic services at the airport without any specific reason had made air travel difficult for people in Warri and its environs. The motion was moved under Motion on Notice by the member representing Ughelli South constituency, Hon. Reuben Izeze and seconded by Hon. Orezi Esievo
