Black Christmas in Plateau as bandits slaughter 76 villagers

Terror bandits have reportedly slaughtered 76 villagers in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas of Plateau State.

Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee of Bokkos LGA, Mr Monday Kasa said the coordinated attacks started on Saturday and lasted until Christmas Eve, when locals were already in the festive mood.

He said the number of casualties is increasing as additional bodies are being retrieved by the team of security operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters who are still combing the bushes for missing people who were ambushed during the dastardly attacks.

Speaking further, Mr Monday said that the terrorists burned down many homes, looted farm products, and destroyed property.

Meanwhile, the unprovoked attacks have been condemned by governor Caleb Mutfwang. He called for swift action and community vigilance.

In a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Mr Muftwang directed security operatives to arrest the criminal elements who masterminded the atrocious act and bring them to justice.

He however, urged residents across the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies so that it can be investigated quickly.
