Court adjourns hearing on alleged certificate forgery until Wednesday.

A federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State’s capital, has adjourned the ongoing case of alleged certificate forgery filed against People’s Democratic Party PDP governorship candidate, Pastor Umo Eno, until August 31, 2022.

The adjournment came after the Plaintiff, Mr Akan Okon, filed a motion on notice for amendment of claims on August 29, 2022, and served the same on the Respondents yesterday during court proceedings.

The case with suit number FHC/UY/CS/110/2022 was adjourned by the court presided over by Justice Agatha Okeke until yesterday, August 29, 2022, for the start of hearing.

However, when the case was scheduled to be heard yesterday, the Plaintiff, Mr. Akan Okon, who was supposed to open his case, appealed to file an amendment to his earlier motion, which was supported by an affidavit.

During the court proceedings, the plaintiff’s new lead Counsel, Okey Amaechi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, filed the motion on notice.

Okon asked the court for permission to amend their originating processes in the suit, which included the writ of summons, statement of claims, written statement on oath, list of documents, and list of witnesses.

He also requested that the Court grant him leave to amend his earlier response to the 1st and 2nd Defendants’ Statements of Defence, as well as all associated processes.

However, Paul Usoro (SAN), Counsel to Umoh Eno and the PDP (first and second Respondents/defendants), told the Court that he had just been served with a new motion for amendment of processes and would review it before responding.

The trial judge, Justice Agatha Okeke, adjourned the case until Wednesday, August 31st, to allow for process amendments.

Mr. Akan Okon, an aggrieved PDP governorship aspirant, had approached the Federal High Court in Uyo immediately after the primaries elections to disqualify Pastor Umo Eno for alleged forgery of his West African Examination Council (WAEC) results presented to the PDP governorship screening committee.
