Government of Imo sealed a suspected illegal gas plant under construction.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
The Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) sealed the premises of a suspected gas plant under construction in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State, over the weekend.
The plant is located in a densely populated area in Amauzari Street, Ikenegbu Extension Lay Out (near Relief Market), Owerri metropolis, according to Track News.
Concerned residents in the area took to social media to warn the nation about the “time bomb and its likely impact on human life.”
After the government sealed the premises until further investigations could be conducted, a resident told a reporter that the government’s action had calmed their nerves.
“This demonstrates that the state government is responsive to the people’s cries,” he said.
However, an OCDA official stated that the agency would ensure that any suspected intent to wrongfully locate such dangerous commodities is not realized.
