IBB University fires 23 students over low grades, misconduct

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University,(IBBU), Lapai, Niger state has fired 23 students from the Institution over two major offences.

Out of them,17 were advised to withdraw from the Institution due to their low academic standard while 7 were withdrawn for various misconduct.

Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu who made this known while addressing Journalists in Minna yesterday in preparation for the 4th combined Convocation of the University coming on Saturday said the Institution has been known for its academic excellence and will continue to maintain the standard.

“Since inception, the University had been known for its high standard both academically and in other human behaviours and we will continue to maintain the standard and not lower it,” the VC declared.

Professor Adamu also disclosed that the Institution will graduate 37 first Class students at the 4th combined Convocation coming up at the University campus, Lapai on Saturday.

“A total of 6,154 students will be graduating on Saturday out of which 37 will be graduating with first class, 954 graduates will be presented with second class upper certificates, while 3, 283 will get second class lower division.

“A total of 1,538 will be graduating with a 3rd class degree and 17 others with Pass,” the VC declared.

He disclosed that those involved in the combined Convocation are the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 graduands adding that 5,719 of the students will be undergraduates while 435 are from the Post Graduate Diploma (PGD), Masters degrees Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

The Vice-Chancellor said the Institution has zero tolerance for all sorts of crimes especially cultism, drug abuse and cyber crime adding that anybody caught will be rusticated from the university.

During the convocation, four eminent Nigerians including the Governor of Plateau state, Simon Bako Lalong will be honoured with an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Administration.

Others are Col. Sani Bello(rtd), Chairman, Mainstream Energy Solutions: Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters, Malam Ibrahim Aliyu, Chairman, Aliyu Trust Foundation: Honorary Doctorate Degree of Entrepreneurship Development and Alhaji AbdulSamad Isyaka Rabiu, Chairman BUA Group, Honorary Doctorate Degree of Business Management.
