ICPC tracks constituency projects in Ondo
By Adeleye Kunle
In an effort to prevent fraud in the selection and execution of constituency projects, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has commenced the tracking of some selected constituency projects in Ondo State.
The commission’s Assistant Chief Superintendent of Investigation, Mr Osove Andrew, disclosed that 33 constituency projects will be scrutinised throughout the state.
According to Andrew, all projects must meet the necessary requirements before they are approved.
It was gathered that some of the senators and House of Representatives members helped to facilitate the projects.
The team started the tracking in Ile-Oluji Local Government Area before moving to the northern senatorial districts of the state in Ikare-Akoko and Oka-Akoko axis.
The team’s leader emphasised that the goal of the exercise was to guarantee that all government-funded projects were fully implemented.
He also insisted that recoveries would be made in cases where contractors intentionally raised project costs or the work was not done properly.
According to him: “The essence of this exercise is basically to ensure that federal government projects assigned to communities are executed [and there’s] value for money in the sense that, when projects are awarded, they are done to specifications and beneficial to the communities as expected at the point of allotment of those projects.
