Tijjani Ibrahim, the All Progressive Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Jigawa South West District, is said to have died in a Chinese hospital while being treated for a lung infection.
The deceased, who died on Saturday, was hospitalized earlier in Abuja before being flown to China when his condition was said to have deteriorated.
In a condolence message sent through his media aide, Habibu Kila, Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru confirmed the report, saying Mr Ibrahim’s death “is a great loss not only to his family but to the Muslim Ummah.”
In the statement, Badaru described Mr Ibrahim as “a loyal and dependable politician who contributed enormously to the country’s political development.”
According to Track News, the deceased will be laid to rest in his hometown of Kiyawa today, Sunday, at 4:00 p.m., in accordance with Islamic rights.
Mr Ibrahim served in the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015, representing the federal constituency of Dutse/Kiyawa.
His death comes barely three months after he won the APC senatorial ticket for his zone with 361 votes as the only candidate.
The deceased politician is survived by his wife, an elderly mother, and a large number of children.
Hajiya Jaja, the deceased politician’s mother, was kidnapped by bandits in June and later released by her captors.
