Just in: ASUU to Meet Tonight to Decide on Strike
Agency Report
The National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will hold its meeting tonight in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The meeting was called to allow the union’s leadership to make the final decision on the ongoing strike.
A source in Abuja said “We will have a meeting today and it will last overnight so that we will be given enough time to deliberate and make a conclusion.”
The source however declined to respond to inquiries about when the strike will be called off. ASUU had demanded for the renegotiation of the ASUU-FG 2009 agreement, release of revitalisation fund for universities, release of earned academic allowances among others.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, dragged the striking lecturers to court over what he tagged as “irreconcilable differences.”
