Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

There are signs that organized labor in the power industry will go on strike indefinitely over unresolved labor disputes with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
According to Naija News, the power sector’s decision may result in a total blackout of the country.

In preparation for the strike, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has pledged to picket the TCN national headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, August 16.

According to Vanguard, in a circular titled “Call for Action” issued by NUEE General Secretary Joe Ajaero to Senior Assistant General Secretaries and Zonal Organising Secretaries on August 15, 2022, the Union directed them to ensure total compliance with the strike.

Knock FG Discos Over N100 billion in Electricity Subsidies
Nigerian electricity distribution companies (Discos) have chastised the federal government for failing to release the N100 billion subsidy on electricity since the sector’s privatisation.

This comes as stakeholders in the power sector expressed their continued opposition to the Federal Government’s planned takeover/restructuring of five Discos via the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

Discos characterized the move as a backdoor renationalization of power companies. They claimed that BPE underpaid investors in the 11 Discos when the facilities were privatized in November 2013.
