Buhari pays tribute to Second Republic Minister Paul Unongo.
President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned the death of Dr. Paul Unongo, a former Minister of Steel Development in the Second Republic and ex-Chairman of the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF).
According to the President, the country has lost an elder statesman.
The President recalled that the late minister held several political positions and was involved in constitutional conferences in a statement issued last night by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu. The late Unongo was the Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council until his death (NERDC).
In a tribute, President Buhari acknowledged the deceased’s close relationship, saying, “In all of his positions as a politician and public officer, he displayed a high level of decorum.” He was a public colossus, very articulate and witty. He gave his all to his community and the country.
“My heartfelt condolences are extended to the bereaved family, the government, and the people of Benue State.”
