NCC, others receive CSEAN Cybersecurity Merit Awards —

The Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria, CSEAN, has stated that the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, and other outstanding individuals and organizations were recently honored at the inaugural edition of the Cybersecurity Merit Awards for their outstanding and valuable contributions to the Nigerian cybersecurity ecosystem.

Rising Star of the Year, Cyber Startup of the Year, State Government of the Year, Cybersecurity Woman of the Year, Outstanding Individual of the Year, and University of the Year were among the award categories.

Others include Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDA, Public Sector Organization of the Year, Financial Institution of the Year, and Media House of the Year.

While speaking at the event, CSEAN President Mr. Ade Shoyinka stated that the purpose of the recognition is to highlight individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the development of the cybersecurity ecosystem.

“I’d like to congratulate you all on your creativity, leadership, and accomplishments, and you deserve a standing ovation.” I implore you to work even harder in order to inspire and motivate others.”

Also speaking, Ben Llewellyn-Jones, Deputy British High Commissioner in Nigeria, reaffirmed the UK government’s commitment to addressing cyber security issues across Nigeria in collaboration with the Nigerian government.

Llewelyn-Jones, who was represented in Nigeria by the UK’s Head of Prosperity, Martha Bostock, stated that the UK government would continue to strengthen such collaboration with Nigeria in order to make cyberspace accessible to all.

Prof. Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, expressed gratitude to the organizers for the recognition and stated that the NCC would continue to create an enabling environment to protect all Nigerians who use digital technology tools in cyberspace.

“The enabling environment will help players navigate in cyberspace without being attacked or falling prey to hackers,” Danbatta, who was also represented by NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Reuben Muoka, said.
