Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports.

There are rumors of a plot against Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

I was elected to represent the Agege constituency in June 2015 and will continue to do so in 2019.

Obasa, who turns 50 in November, won the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to run for a sixth term as a legislator in May 2020.

Obasa has been accused of corruption, though the reason for the alleged move to deny him the Speaker seat for the third time is unclear.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) interrogated him in October 2020 on allegations of fraud and financial misappropriation.

Gholahan Yishawu, a member of the legislature, has denied being involved in a plot against Obasa.

The representative for Eti-Osa 02 constituency and Chairman of the Budget and Planning Committee blamed opponents.

“Because of his leadership skills, I support his re-election in the 2023 general elections and as speaker in the next 10th assembly,” he said.

Like Obasa, Yishawu and the majority of Lagos officials are close to ex-Governor Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate (APC).

According to Track News, some forces may be attempting to install a new head of legislature in the next dispensation.

A source close to the House said over the weekend that, despite “unfounded claims,” the lawmakers are on good terms.

“There is no crisis in the house.” Nobody knows what is causing this problem. There is currently no cause for concern.

“I assure you that Hon. Obasa and his colleagues are in good health.” Even those who did not win in the primaries are still active.

“Those who refused to return were appeased; they were summoned to a meeting, which ended well.”

In response to a question about whether Obasa and Tinubu are at odds, the source said they are still friendly.

“The Speaker is Tinubu’s son.” He is, in fact, an arrowhead of Tinubu’s campaign in Lagos.

“However, because of his position and the fact that he is also running in 2023, he cannot truly be at the forefront.”

Obasa revealed in September 2020 that he and party members rely on Tinubu for guidance.

“We follow him whenever he declares this is the way.” Whatever he says, we make certain it is carried out to its logical conclusion,” he added.

Obasa serves on the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the APC’s highest decision-making body in Lagos.
