Osun police nabs three persons over unlawful possession of firearms

Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspects for unlawful possession of firearms.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Opalola Yemisi made this known during a press briefing on Wednesday in Osogbo.

Opalola revealed that the suspects, all male, included: 20-year-old Akano Olasumkanmi, 25-year-old Monsuru Ali and 42-year-old Tunde Alabi who claimed to be a welder.

One cut to size locally made pistol, ten locally made dane guns, one pump action rifle and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspects.

She revealed that, “On 17th June, 2023 at about 1230hrs, Police operatives of Safer Highway Patrol along Okepa junction, Osu, Osun State intercepted Akano Olasunkanmi ‘m’ and Monsuru Ali ‘m’ both of Store village, Ilesa on the motorcycle, unlawfully in possession of a cut-to-size pistol.

“In the course of a discreet investigation by the operatives of Anti-Kidnapping squad, Akano Olasunkanmi confessed to be the owner of the gun.

“He further stated that, sometime in the year 2022, one Tunde Alabi ‘m’ of Agbede quarters, Toro Road, Modakeke, Osun State made the gun for him at the rate of N30,000.

“However, the alleged Tunde Alabi was arrested and one live cartridge, one pump action and ten locally made barrel guns were also found in his possession.”

Opalola stated that all three suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigation
