Police react to gunmen attack on Kwara communities
The Kwara State police command has reacted to the reported attacks on two communities in Baruten Local Government of the state.
The spokesman of the command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, in a statement in Ilorin on Sunday said, “the command is aware that a case of armed robbery by five masked men was reported in Boriya Saturday night.”
According to him, a store owner was attacked and an undisclosed amount of money and three telephone handsets were stolen from him at gunpoint.
He, however, said, “there was no information of any attack between Gure and Boriya as far as the command is aware.”
Track news recalls that gunmen reportedly invaded Gure and Boriya communities in the local government on Saturday night shooting sporadically.
Reports said the invaders targeted mainly store owners and top business concerns in Boriya town.
The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Engr Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, on Sunday, condemned the attacks with an assurance that the state government would fish out the masterminds and bring them to justice.
He sympathized with the victims of the attacks and advised the people to be vigilant and report people with suspicious movement in the area.
