Published

on

Suspected armed men dressed in military and police uniforms have launched attacks on Opu-Nembe community to possibly engage on mass arrest of certain people believed not to be in support of the Governorship bid of Chief Timipre Sylva, the APC candidate in the November 11 election.

Some persons have sustained different degree of injuries in the confusion while they scamper for safety.

The Community leadership ordered the town criers to pass message round the community to stand firm against the aggressors.

Youths ,women and the chiefs in the community have resisted the onslaught.

A community source who confirmed the incident said:

The alleged fully armed Police men we strongly believe were send on this dastardy mission by the immediate past Minister of State Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva in a bid to forcefully intimidate and harrass the people to support him in his bid for the Governorship election under the APC.

Their primary mission we believe is to arrest chiefs and prominent people in the community who have refused to support him in his bid to contest for the Nov 11th Governorship election.”

It will be recalled that there is a subsisting court order restraining both the IGP and Commissioner of Police SWAT from arresting or doing anything pending the determination of a matter pending at the Federal High Court.

Petitions were done to the IGP on the gruesome murder of 3 people in the community allegedly by one Kojo Sam but nothing was done to arrest the said Kojo Sam.

As at 7.50pm information reaching us is that the Policemen have injured and in fact allegedly killied one person.
