Adenike Okunbanjo, 60, was docked in an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday for allegedly stealing 99 iPhones worth N14.85 million.

The defendant, a businesswoman from Temidire, Ibafo, Ogun State, is charged with conspiracy and theft.

The offence was committed on January 16, 2017 at Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, according to the Prosecution Counsel, ASP Raji Akeem.

Mr Bolaji Ogunsanya, according to Akeem, shipped the iPhones worth N14.85 million from the United States to Lagos to be delivered to someone named “Mr Azeez” in Lagos.

According to the prosecutor, the shipment arrived in Lagos but went missing at the airport, and all efforts to locate it failed.

According to Akeem, the complainant gave the police the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of all the phones.

The prosecutor also stated that one of the phone’s IMEIs was traced to the defendant, who was then tracked and arrested.

Akeem also stated that four of the iPhones were discovered during a search of her home.

He claimed that the offense violated sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015.

The defendant, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N2 million with two sureties in the same amount by the Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O Osunsanmi.

Osunsanmi postponed the case until September 28 for further consideration.
