ECOWAS Set to Restructure, Reduce Commissioners from Fifteen to Seven
Leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have commenced restructuring the institution for a more effective service delivery to benefit all citizens in the region.
Chairperson of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway said the restructuring, as part of broad reforms, would reduce the number of commissioners from 15 to seven.
While giving her opening remarks at the one-day extraordinary session of the council of ministers, Botchway said the restructuring also aimed at creating a more cost-effective administrative structure.
She underscored the need for the regional body to use the long-standing team work to ensure the achievement of practical and attainable reforms that will usher ECOWAS into a new era of productivity, cost-efficiency, quality service delivery, and excellence for the benefit of the west African sub region.
She further urged member states to place the desired success of the institutional reforms far above national sentiments and carry this all-important process forward successfully.
