Kashim Shettima, presidential running mate for the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar should not run for president.

Shettima believes Atiku should not run for president of Nigeria because he is incapable of uniting the PDP.

On Friday, he spoke at the unveiling of the APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu’s manifesto in Abuja.

Shettima challenged Atiku to first reconcile with disgruntled PDP members before running for president.

“Atiku Abubakar, who cannot put his own political house in order, cannot aspire to lead Nigeria,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the nation’s leading opposition party set out to exploit the nation’s rotational arrangement and refused to read the national mood.” And this has long backfired, turning their presidential ambition into a televised national circus.

“A presidential candidate who cannot put his own political house in order cannot aspire to lead the nation.”

His remark comes at a time when the PDP is embroiled in a leadership crisis.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has been at odds with the PDP’s leadership since Atiku emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.

While Wike accepted Atiku as the party’s flagbearer, he demanded the resignation of PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu.

Wike, speaking on behalf of some state governors, claimed that Ayu and Atiku, who are from the same region, represent injustice.
