2023: I’ve better qualifications and track record than my rivals – Tinubu.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, met with several Christian clerics late Thursday under the auspices of the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria.
He informed the clergy that he is better positioned than his opponents to improve the prospects of the country.
According to him, his choice of a Muslim running mate was not motivated by religion or other sentiments, but rather by a desire to serve.
Tinubu elaborated on his objectives, saying, “How will Nigeria develop?” How can we put an end to hunger? How do we reduce insecurity and stop people from killing one other and shedding blood on innocent citizens? That is what we must bring to work, not our religion.
“My intention is crystal clear. Not in terms of religion. My objective is to grow this country, to bring prosperity to our country, and I have greater qualifications, track record, exposure, and vision than any of my colleagues.”
“When the shortlisted candidates came, I looked at the characters on the list, their backgrounds and everything, and here is somebody (Kashim Shettima) who is so intelligent, so committed, who protected Christians throughout the crisis in Borno,” Tinubu said of his running mate decision.
He then asked Nigerians to reject religious feelings, stating, “Let us establish intellectual inclusivity in order to build an understanding of which way Nigeria should go.”
Archbishop John Praise, Chairman of the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria, stated, “We are not committed to endorsing anyone, but you should ask your conscience and make your own judgment of who will better rule and handle the country based on what you have heard and the explanations he (Tinubu) has given to us.”
Senator Grace Bent of Adamawa State, a party chieftain, expressed hope that Tinubu’s victory will herald in a new era for the body of Christ in the country.
