More pressure groups have continued to canvas support for the election of former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

A coalition of pressure groups, under the auspices of the National Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan (NACOJO), has concluded plans to embark on aggressive grassroots mobilisation for Jonathan across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday after an enlarged executive council meeting of the body in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, National Convener, NACOJO, Mr. Munene Wilson, said the body would release a comprehensive timetable next week for the inauguration of state chapters.

Wilson said the body believed that Nigeria needed a leader who is abreast of the current political and economic challenges of the country, rationalising that ex-President Jonathan was such a trusted and tested leader.

He also said Jonathan is a detribalised leader with an impeccable political record of achievements capable of providing workable solutions to ameliorate the mirage of woes currently bedevilling the nation.

Wilson said the body was among several other groups in the country regularly holding deep consultations with Jonathan to persuade him to run the February 2023 Presidential election.

The NACOJO convener stated: “The Nigerian nation must not be handed over at this critical moment to a leader that will run experiment with her political and economic challenges.

“We plead with the former President to consider Nigeria above his personal interest and yield to the popular call for him to run the 2023 Presidential election on the platform of a preferred political party.”

Wilson was accompanied to the briefing by the National Secretary of NACOJO, Dr. Iteimowei Major, the Director of Organisation/Legal, Ovieyi Theophilus and the Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Ayebaitari Easterday.
