Abacha Lado and Yari seek Wike’s backing for the 2023 elections
By Adeleye Kunle
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike hosted three prominent northern politicians yesterday to discuss the 2023 general election.
Wike previously hosted the former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, at his private residence in Rumuepirikom in the state’s Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, and later met behind closed doors.
The meeting was reportedly held to entice Wike to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 elections.
According to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, the PDP governorship candidates for Katsina and Kano states, Senator Yakubu Lado and Mohammad Abacha, both visited Wike.
However, Lado, who spoke to journalists after their closed-door meeting with Wike, stated that they were there as a courtesy visit to pay tribute to their friend and brother.
“We paid a courtesy call to our brother, the governor of Rivers State,” he said. We have not been able to visit Rivers State to pay our respects to him since the primary election. That is why we have come to tell him that we are friends and brothers.”
On their level of preparedness and chances of winning the 2023 governorship elections in Katsina and Kano states, Lado enthused that they were very prepared and confident of delivering the party and winning the elections.
