Anambra election: Abdulsalami Abubakar’s National Peace Committee gives verdict
ĶThe National Peace Committee (NPC) on Friday in Abuja described the Anambra governorship election as successful.
The body chaired by former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, has Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, as the secretary.
The NPC congratulated the Governor-elect, Prof. Charles Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
In a statement, Abubakar commended the people for the way they conducted themselves throughout the election.
The retired General said they displayed unprecedented patience, courage, decorum, and sacrifice to cast their votes despite narratives of doom and fear.
He noted that Nigerians appreciate their conduct, display of patriotism and commitment to the ideals of democracy.
The NPC also commended INEC, political parties, security agencies and all stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of the election.
“The National Peace Committee particularly expresses profound appreciation to Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, INEC Chairman and his team and the Inspector- General of Police.
“The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee for Election and Security, security agencies, traditional rulers, development partners, and civil society groups are also worthy of commendation,” the statement read.
The statement thanked political parties and their candidates for yielding to the call for a peaceful election in Anambra.
