Appeal Court Ruling: Ogun PDP hails Judiciary, slams APC, Abiodun

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State is pleased with the ruling handed down by the Appeal Court in Abuja on Wednesday, 16 August 2023.

The ruling reversed a decision made by Justice H. N. Kanuza of the Ogun State Governorship Tribunal on Monday, and the PDP and its candidate for governor, Hon. (Dr.) Oladipupo Adebutu, filed an appeal.

You may recall that in the tribunal, Chief Gordy Uche, SAN, counsel for our side, argued that the Petitioners did not raise any new issue in their reply but rather responded to a new issue raised by the 2nd respondent (Dapo Abiodun) in his reply that was not part of the issues raised in the petition. The Tribunal sided with Mr. Dapo Abiodun, the second respondent, after hearing arguments from his attorney, Prof. Taiwo Osipitan, SAN, and struck out the second respondent’s reply to the petition.

We are, however, relieved that the Appeal Court’s ruling today, written by Justice M. B. Idris and read by Justice Aliyu Waziri, appropriately upheld our long-held position on Abiodun and the APC’s desperation on his reckless act of vote buying and unprecedented voters inducements.

In addition to our gratitude and admiration for the Appellate Court, we would want to make an impassioned plea to the departing Governor of the State and, of course, his cabal of liars in the APC, which has been concerned with dishonest attempts to twist the truth in the verdict. It should be noted that the APC, through its errand speakers and lazy media urchins, has continued its voyage of deliberate lying on social media platforms in an effort to appease its members’ unrestrained dreams and defeated imaginations.

The APC’s chief publicist, Tunde Oladunjoye, released a terrible watery statement today, and a thorough study of it reveals the extent to which Oladunjoye is unaware of our petition, our responses to his principals’ response, and the full proceedings in the tribunal.

We have no interest in engaging in verbal sparring with Oladunjoye or the APC. We also ask that the general public understand that Mr. Oladunjoye must keep spreading false hope amongst his Party’s supporters, which is why he is lying about the significance of the ruling.

Therefore, we recommend that he always consult with their Counsels to ensure accurate information before releasing any statements to the public. The people of Ogun State are a savvy lot who won’t be fooled by pleas for public support. The more they try to hide their nakedness with rags, the more they expose themselves, so we must likewise remind him of this. Just how many untruths can you tell? A good lie requires a sharp recall.
