Sam Ohuabunwa, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has urged the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign if the enmity between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is to be resolved.

On Tuesday, Ohuabunwa made the announcement on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

When he was elected as the party’s Chairman last year, Ayu reportedly agreed to resign if the PDP chose a Northerner as its presidential candidate.

However, following the election of Atiku as the PDP’s presidential candidate, it was expected that Ayu would keep his word and vacate the seat for a Southerner as part of efforts to address zoning concerns within the party.

However, Ayu has stated that he has no intention of resigning.

Remember that Atiku defeated Wike in the PDP presidential primaries and passed him over for the position of Vice-Presidential candidate, but the latter is thought to be critical to the party’s success in the presidential election next year.

“I consider him [Ayu] to be a man of honor,” Ohuabunwa stated.

“If that’s what he said, then he should take the honorable path.”

“Even if he didn’t say it, as the leader of the party that brought us here, he should make the sacrifice.” Do what needs to be done to ensure that Nigerians and PDP members are satisfied.

“If stepping down is required for that to happen, he should do so.” We need to bring the party together.

“Right now, this party is bleeding,” Ohuabunwa added.
