IJAW leaders have declared their support for All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, under the auspices of The Struggle Platform, a group advocating improved conditions for Ijaw oil-bearing communities in Niger-Delta.

When Deputy Senate President, Senator Omo-Agege, paid a consultation visit to the members in Warri, Delta state, the group led by an Ijaw leader, Elder Timi Ogoriba, announced their support for him.

Ima Niboro, Director, Communications and Media Strategy, Delta APC Gubernatorial Campaign Organization, said in a statement that Ijaw leaders and kinsmen of elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, sided with the South-South leader, who recently blessed Omo-Agege.

“I am meeting you formally for the first time, but we have heard so much about you,” Elder Ogoriba said. When my wife was in school in Anwai, I heard about you; you were the Secretary to the State Government, SSG.”

“We’ve heard a lot about you. You are now the Senate’s Deputy President. That is a very high position. It did not come easily. You have risen to that position through hard work. Taking an office is one thing; doing justice with that office is another. And we have seen that you have been using the office for the good of so many people, your constituents, and Delta as a whole.

“On July 4th, this House (group) met and said there is one man we need to meet with.” Because, based on his credentials, I believe that if we give him our support, those of us from The Struggle Platform, along with Deltans, will go far.

“We are pleased, and you can see that many people have come because they believe in the cause.” We would not be here if we did not believe in it.

“And nothing is worth nothing.” We believe that something will be given to our people so that by the end of the day, they will know that where we gave our support has brought credibility to us so that we can reap the benefits of democracy,” he asserted.

Chief Dan Ekpebide, another Ijaw leader and host, backed Chief Clark’s endorsement and promised to mobilize his supporters for all APC candidates in the upcoming election.

Senator Omo-Agege was accompanied to the event by his running mate, Rt. Hon. Friday Ossai Osanebi; the State APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie; the Chairman of the APC Delta Central, Chief Paulinus Akpeki; the APC House of Assembly Candidate for Patani State Constituency, Barr. Raymos Guanah; High Chief Michael Johnny; and former Commissioner, Chief Chris Ekiyor.

It should be noted that Clark, who also led the struggle for the establishment of Delta State in 1991, recently expressed his confidence in Senator Omo-ability Agege’s to turn the state’s and its people’s fortunes around.
