Delta: INEC remains silent on the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate
By Adeleye Kunle
DELTA — Unless it takes immediate action to resolve its internal crisis, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP may lose Delta state as a result of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC’s decision not to publish details of the party’s Governorship candidate.
Sheriff Oborevwori, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, reportedly won the PDP governorship primary on May 25, but his closest rival, former Chief of Staff to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, David Edevbie, had approached an Abuja High Court seeking Oborevwori’s disqualification due to discrepancies in the certificates he presented.
Since then, there have been serious legal wranglings over who the party’s candidate is.
Track News investigations on Friday night revealed that the electoral umpire refrained from publishing any of the aspirants’ details, with a source saying the commission would wait for a court ruling on the matter before publishing any names.
