Following a clash with police, the DSS withdrew personnel from Gov. Adeleke’s convoy.

The withdrawal of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s security detail was attributed to a superiority complex among Nigeria police and the Department of State Security personnel.

Last week, the DSS headquarters withdrew personnel assigned to the Governor, requesting that he (the Governor) ensure strict adherence to security protocol.

According to Olawale Rasheed, the Governor’s spokesperson, the fracas was caused by a minor misunderstanding between police and DSS personnel in the Governor’s security detail.

The findings revealed that the DSS headquarters was dissatisfied with the way police officers on the security detail insulted its personnel, as well as the Governor’s refusal to address the issue.

The Governor’s Aide de Camp (ADC) was said to have brought men from the police SIB dressed in DSS uniforms and usurping DSS duties, a situation that the DSS’s command headquarters in Osogbo was made aware of.

Following the persistence of the situation, the command headquarters in Abuja ordered the withdrawal of its personnel on Thursday, pending the governor’s willingness to address it.

However, Olawale stated in the statement that the problem is being resolved at the sister security agencies’ headquarters.
“The attention of the Osun State Government has been drawn to a report on the alleged withdrawal of security personnel from Governor Ademola Adeleke,” the statement continues.

“We want to be clear that this is a minor disagreement between Department of State Service and Police officers.

“The incident has been reported to the two security agencies’ headquarters for resolution. The issue is being addressed.

“We want to reassure the public that there is nothing to worry about. Your Governor is completely secure, and governance is proceeding without hiccup “.
