Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, says a new design that will form part of the redevelopment plan of Aba, the commercial capital of Abia, has been produced.

Governor Otti disclosed this on Sunday at the Living Word Church, Umungasi, Aba, where he worshipped.

He said the new design was done by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), one of the companies already handling road works in the state.

While acknowledging the right of the citizens to hold government to account, the Governor encouraged them to do it responsibly, saying the era of victimisation and intimidation of Abians, using State institutions and agencies, was over.

“One statement that I would like to make here is that the end of victimisation has come in Abia,” he said.

According to Governor Otti, it is the fundamental right of the people to express their opinion. He said that some people had written a lot of things against his government and which were not replied to most times.

The Governor, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, recalled how some Abia citizens were victimised in the past for expressing their opinions on how they were governed. Some of these people, according to him, were incarcerated in the prison and it took his intervention for them to regain their freedom.

Governor Otti, later on joined the congregation at the Assemblies of God Church, Clifford Road, Aba, where he honoured the church’s invitation on its annual Men’s Day Celebration.

The Governor announced that work would commence this week on Obiora Road, off Clifford Road, Aba. The church had earlier drawn his attention to the bad state of the road.

“I have taken notice of your request about the less than one kilometer road, they will start work on it on Tuesday,” he affirmed.
