How Can Igbos Be Asking For Senate Presidency When We’re The Ones Agitating To Leave Nigeria? – Onoh

Dr Josef Onoh, the spokesman for the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the South-East has taken a swipe at the Igbo groups that are asking that the Senate Presidency of the 10th National Assembly should be zoned to the South-East region.

In the report which was made by Vanguard, Onoh asked why the Igbos should be asking for the Senate Presidency when they are the ones agitating to leave Nigeria, yet the Senators and elders from the South-East have failed to address the issue.

He said that those canvassing that Senate Presidency should be zoned to the South-East are shedding crocodile tears, when they are the same people saying that Tinubu should not be sworn in until the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal gives verdict on the petitions challenging Tinubu’s victory. He also tackled the Igbo elders who are now talking about fairness and equity when they were not fair to Tinubu during the campaign period.

He said – “How can we be asking for Senate Presidency when we are the ones agitating to leave Nigeria, yet our Senators and leaders have not addressed that? I think that we need to sit down to address these issues. How can we be asking for Senate Presidency when some of our own Senators in the APC, with the exception of Senator-elect Dave Umahi and Senator Osita Izunaso, did not vote for Asiwaju nor joined him for campaigns in the South-East?”

Speaking further, Onoh said that Igbos need to tell themselves the truth and begin to harmonize their political choices and accept Nigeria as their own country and join hands in building it.
